John Stroschine, Program Manager for Northwest Regional Planning Commission (right) presents a Northwest Wisconsin Regional Economic Development Fund check for $25,000 to John and Mary Thiel owners of Dreamcatcher Sailing Charters. Proceeds of the check along with private bank and equity financing will be used to purchase an additional sailing vessel for the business.

The Chattering Squirrel Coffee Cafe Siren, recently became the first NW Wisconsin business affected by either the Siren or Ladysmith tornadoes to repay a NW Wisconsin Business Development Corporation Emergency Loan. The Emergency Revolving Loan Fund was set-up by NW Regional Planning Commission, through the effects of Congressman Dave Obey, to assist businesses and communities in rebuilding after the tornadoes. Chattering Squirrel Cafe owners Peggy and Jim Tolbert commented in paying off the loan, “This loan was a great help as we rebuilt after the tornado.” “Thanks again for your assistance.” The proceeds of the loan repayment will be made available to help other businesses facing similar emergency circumstances in the future.

Announcing the 2008 Price Co. Hazardous Waste/Medications/Electronics Collections
The northwest counties of Wisconsin are making it easy for residents to dispose of unwanted or unusable household chemicals. Such items as oil-based paints, solvents, pesticides, hazardous cleaners, fluorescent and high-density light bulbs, oil filters, rechargeable and button batteries, mercury, old gas, cell phones and computers will be accepted. Some items collected require a fee. *Please note that medications and prescriptions, as well as electronic items will only be taken at the SATURDAY collection event.

CEO Carl Marschke. Proceeds of the loan will be used in part by the Phillips business to develop proprietary manufacturing equipment capable of producing innovative green building components.

John Stroschine Northwest Regional Planning Commission’s Program Manager presents a Northwest Wisconsin Regional Economic Development Fund revolving loan fund check for $25,000 to Rocky Ridge Rental owner Dina VanGilder. Proceeds of the loan will be used in part to purchase new rental equipment. Rocky Ridge Rental is located on state highway 48 east of the Village of Birchwood in Sawyer County. The business rents equipment and party supplies.

Judith Lokken-Strom owner and operator of Greunke’s First Street Inn (Bayfield) holds a revolving loan fund check for $20,000 that she received from the Northwest Wisconsin Regional Economic Development Fund. Proceeds of the check will be used to make improvements to the Inn. The Northwest Wisconsin Regional Economic Development Fund is administered by the Northwest Regional Planning Commission.

Clearly Superior, Inc. produces a unique thickened water product (AquaCareH2O) that has the potential to attract a nationwide market. AquaCareH2O is designed to improve the quality of life for people suffering from dysphagia, a medical condition that impacts a person’s ability to swallow. Potential patients include people suffering from strokes, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, throat cancer, spinal cord injury and Alzheimer’s disease.
