NWRPC Recognized for Outstanding Achievement

Monday, April 19th, 2010

NWRPC Recognized for Outstanding Achievement Working in the northwestern region of Wisconsin for over 51 years, the Northwest Regional Planning Commission was recently recognized by the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Planning Association for its efforts in comprehensive planning.

In October 1999 the Wisconsin Legislature passed legislation that described planning elements that when developed as part of a comprehensive plan, would enable town, village, city, county and tribal governments the ability to address unique community issues including, but not limited to, housing, transportation, economic development, land use, intergovernmental cooperation, natural resources, community facilities and coastal resources.  Comprehensive plans provide communities with information and policies that will guide future planning and community decisions.  Developed using local community input, the comprehensive plans incorporate a twenty-year vision and provide a rational basis for local decisions.

Since 1999, Northwest Regional Planning Commission has assisted over 70 local units of government across the 10-county region in the preparation of comprehensive planning grants and plans.

At the 2010 Spring Conference of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Planning Association, Northwest Regional Planning Commission was presented a plaque “In recognition of extraordinary efforts in promoting Comprehensive Planning within your region”.  At right is Sheldon Johnson, Deputy Director of Northwest Regional Planning Commission accepting the award of recognition from Gary L. Peterson, shown on left, President of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Planning Association.
