RECYCLING CONTROL COMMISSION

The Recycling Control Commission is a two-county governmental entity that oversees and administrates the recycling and solid waste management activities for Burnett and Washburn counties of Wisconsin. The Commission was originally chartered under the name, Waste Management Group in 1990. The Waste Management Group was initially formed in response to the 1990 State of Wisconsin legislation which banned the landfilling of various recyclable items. The two counties developed recycling drop-off and curbside recycling programs for homeowners as well as disposal options for appliances, tires, computers, batteries and fluorescent bulbs. Leaf and brush collection sites are also administered throughout the counties.

The Commission also provides education for waste reduction, as well as recycling and reuse opportunities in the area. Additionally, businesses, schools and municipalities are provided information on their legislative requirements to recycle and staff are on hand to disseminate recycling literature and to provide linkages to recycling service providers.

Recycling is an activity that requires proper preparation of items before they can be marketed into recycled materials. This website details the procedures for recycling, sites where materials may be brought, any required fees and the hours of operation for each site. Contact numbers are also available for those wishing to sign up for curbside recycling. Persons wishing to receive further information on recycling or solid waste management not available on this website may call Jen Barton at 715-635-2197.
