Burnett County, in partnership with Washburn County, is pleased to announce that they have received a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Environmental Education program to conduct education (study groups) for its residents, municipal leaders, and institutions, dealing with sustainable development and how we can utilize this idea to minimize the impact of environmental problems in our two-county region.

NWRPC Receives NADO Award

The Northwest Regional Planning Commission, Wisconsin Business Innovation Corporation in Spooner Wisconsin received a 2007 Innovation Award from the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) for their Botanic Oil Innovations Inc.

NADO is a Washington, DC-based association that promotes programs and policies that strengthen local governments, communities and economies through regional cooperation, program delivery and comprehensive strategies. The associations Innovation Awards program recognizes regional development organizations and partnering organizations for improving the economic and community competitiveness of our nations regions and local communities. Award winners were showcased during NADOs 2007 Annual Training Conference, August 25-28 in Austin, Texas.

According to NADO President Dan Bollinger, Executive Director of Southwest Georgia Regional Planning Center in Camilla, Georgia, Each year, Innovation Awards showcase the creativity and significant, long-term impact of numerous regional programs and projects like the Botanic Oil Innovations Inc., that are key to sustaining and preserving the environmental, economic and cultural heritage of our nations regions and local communities.

NW Affordable Housing Offers Funds to City of Ladysmith Residents

The City of Ladysmith was selected to receive $560,000 from Wisconsin?s Division of Housing and Community Development to be used towards owner-occupied housing repairs, renter-occupied housing repairs, and down payment and closing costs for renters seeking to purchase a home.

The housing rehabilitation program will assist eligible low- to moderate-income (LMI) households who are at or below 80 percent of the county median household income level. The income limits for LMI households are: 1 person-$30,750; 2 persons-$35,100; 3 persons-$39,500; 4 persons-$43,900; 5 persons-$47,400; 6 persons-$50,900; 7 persons-$54,450; and 8 persons-$57,950.

Under the owner-occupied housing rehabilitation program, zero percent, deferred-payment loan funds are available to make major repairs or replacement to heating, plumbing, electrical, siding, doors, windows, foundation and structure, roof, and water or sewer laterals.

Under the home purchase program, renters seeking to purchase a home can receive zero percent, deferred-payment loan funds to be used to pay up to one-half of the required down payment and eligible closing costs.

Landlords may also make major repairs to rental units. Funds used on rental unit repairs will be subject to zero percent interest rates with up to ten years in which to payback the loan. Tenant income restrictions apply to the rental units for the first five years.

Housing Funding Assistance Available

Northwest Affordable Housing, who provides funding assistance to qualified clients in the Counties of Burnett, Washburn, Sawyer, Rusk, Price, Taylor, Iron, Ashland, Bayfield and Douglas, announces financial assistance in the form of a zero percent interest, deferred payment loan for housing rehabilitation or to purchase a home.? The borrower pays the loan back once the dwelling no longer remains the owner?s principal place of residence.? Projects include: roofing, siding, heating, electrical, windows and doors, insulation, foundation, sewer, septic and wells, and handicapped accessibility.
