Northwest Regional Planning Commission

Planning

Since 1959, Northwest Regional Planning Commission has provided a vast array of professional services to local units of government in northwestern Wisconsin. Examples of such services has included the development of land use plans, tax increment districts, zoning ordinance, highway corridor plans, roadway management plans, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Automated Cartography (AutoCAD) mapping, grant writing (state, federal and foundation), outdoor recreation planning, water quality planning and natural resource planning.

With the comprehensive planning deadline approximately two years away, many communities are striving to develop and adopt local comprehensive plans. NWRPC Staff is assisting Douglas County and 14 participating towns and villages, and Sawyer County and 7 towns. NWRPC had previously assisted the counties in the development of a comprehensive planning grant application.

In 2007, NWRPCs technical assistance resulted in the formal adoption of the following comprehensive plans for: Taylor County; Town of Drummond, Bayfield County; Town of Swiss, Burnett County; Town of Chelsea, Taylor County; and The Town of Molitor, Taylor County. Also, multi-jurisdictional comprehensive planning grant applications were prepared for Burnett and Bayfield Counties.

Also in 2007, three CDBG – Public Facilities planning grants totaling $911,660 from the Wisconsin Department of Commerce, were completed and closed out. The Town of Bell in Bayfield County completed a rehabilitation of their Community Center/Town Hall. The City of Hayward celebrated the construction of the Sherman & Ruth Weiss Community Library with a Grand Opening on June 2, 2007 and the Village of Glen Flora closed out its rehabilitation of the wastewater treatment facility and collection system.

Below is the new Town of Bell Community Center/Town Hall located in Bayfield County. Also pictured, is the new Sherman and Ruth Weiss Community Library located in Hayward.
